SUNDAY QUICK HITS
Hamels did not disappoint as he pitched seven strong innings giving up two runs on seven hits striking out seven and walking two batters. Ryan Madson(1-0) came on in the eighth with the score tied and gets the win. Jose Contreras pitched the ninth for the Phillies and recorded his third save.
The player of the game was Placido Polanco as he hit his first home run of the season went three for four with one RBI. Polanco is now batting .373.
Roy Oswalt is expected to make his next start on Thursday in San Diego, he left the game on Friday with a lower back strain.
Marlin pitcher Anibal Sanchez started and went six innings giving up two runs on six hits, struck out eight and walked four. Ryan Webb(0-2) gets the loss in relief giving up one run in two innings.
The Boston Red Sox won again and this is the first time this season they have won consecutive games. Boston started the day with the worse record in the majors at 3-10. Now 4-10 and the bats are coming to life slowly but surely as is their pitching.
Jon Lester pitched six strong innings for Boston giving up one run, six hits and three walks and struck out five. Lester is now 1-1 this season. The Red Sox offense managed eight runs on eight hits, two for extra bases, a home run by Jacoby Ellsbury(3) and a double from Adrian Gonzalez(3). Jarred Saltalamacchia(5) and Jacoby Ellsbury(8) each had three RBI.
The Toronto Blue Jays could come up with only one score on seven hits. Jesse Litsch gets the loss going six innings, giving up six runs on seven hits, Litsch is now1-1.
Atlanta sent Tommy Hanson(1-3) to the mound to start the game, he went five innings giving up all three runs on just five hits. The Braves are now 7-9 and the New York Mets 5-11.
Cleveland finished the three game sweep of the Orioles going deep three times. Grady Sizemore(1) homered in his first game back and Carlos Santana(2) and Travis Hafner(4) also went long. Sizemore is back after knee surgery last May. He homered and doubled in his return.
Fausto Carmona(1-2) takes the win giving up two runs on five hits in seven innings. Chris Perez records the save, his fifth this season.
The Baltimore loss goes to Brad Bergesen (0-2) he went five innings giving up three runs on six hits.
