FRIDAY QUICK HITS
A six run third for the Dodgers was more than enough for the win in Chicago but they doubled that number for a 12-2 win. Juan Uribe and Matt Kemp both homered for the Dodgers it was the second home run for both this year. Andre Ethier was one for two and now has a nineteen game hitting streak under his belt, the longest in the majors. The Dodgers had the twelve runs on fourteen hits and ten walks. Juan Uribe was two for four with four RBI which gives him twelve this year.
Chad Billingsley (2-1) gets the win pitching 6.1 innings giving up two runs on seven hits, struck out three and walked three. The Dodgers are now a game over .500 at 11-10.
The Cubs are now 9-10 with the loss. Casey Coleman (1-1) started for the Cubs but only lasted 2.2 innings, he was lifted after giving up six runs on six hits walking four and striking out four. Coleman takes the loss for Chicago. Kosuke Fukudome had three of the Cubs eight hits struck out and walked once.
The Texas Rangers had nine extra base hits and scored eleven runs to down Kansas City 11-6. Five home runs, a triple and three doubles were part of their attack. All who played and had a chance to get to the plate had at least one hit for the Rangers. Ian Kinsler went three for five scored three runs and had one RBI. Two of his three hits went for extra bases, a double and home run.
Kansas starter Jeff Francis lasted four innings and gets the loss, he is now 0-2. Francis gave up six runs, five earned, on nine hits. Kansas is now 12-8. Kansas City’s Alex Gordon extended his hitting streak to sixteen games with a fourth inning infield single.
The Phillies could manage only six hits, scoring two runs, but that was enough as they downed the Padres behind Cole Hamels in a 2-0 final. Hamels pitched eight innings giving up the four hits with three walks and eight strikeouts. Ryan Madson pitched the ninth and gets his first save.
Ryan Howard had a triple accounting for both Phillies runs. He was two for four with two RBI and now has seventeen this year.
San Diego starter Clayton Richard gets the loss and now is 1-1. He gave up the two runs allowing six hits with four walks and four strikeouts. San Diego is now scoreless in their past twenty one innings, the Phillies are responsible for eighteen of them with two shutouts in a row.
Philadelphia is now 13-6 and the Padres 8-12.
Anibal Sanchez had a no-hitter going into the ninth but Dexter Fowler ruined it with a broken bat single. Sanchez got the next three batters for the one hit win. The Marlins scored all four of their runs in the first three innings for the 4-1 win.
Colorado’s lone score in the first was the result of three walks and a throwing error by Marlin’s Gaby Sanchez. Jhoulys Chacin (3-1) started for the Rockies and gets the loss. The Rockies record is now 13-6 and the Florida Marlins go to 12-6
