MONDAY QUICK HITS
The Phillies went to Arizona after sweeping all four games from San Diego with a good feeling about their pitching staff but still some questions about their offense.
All their games in San Diego were low scoring wins. In the four game set the Phillies pitching staff allowed only three runs total but the Phillies offense was held to thirteen runs. Good enough for four wins, and a win is a win times four but looking for better
results at the plate.
Ian Kennedy was not about to make it easy for the Phillies offense. The Diamondback hurler was in New York Sunday with his wife who gave birth to their child Nora Rose.
Back in Arizona to meet the Phillies and Cliff Lee. Kennedy (3-1) out-pitched Lee in a four- zip win striking out ten, walking none, in a three hit complete game shutout.
Chris Young (5) and Gerado Parra (1) both homered for the Diamondbacks. Arizona was held to five hits but made them count in the 4-0 win.
Cliff Lee (2-2) went seven innings giving up four runs on five hits striking out twelve. Placido Polanco had two of the three hits total by Philly. Jimmy Rollins managed the other.
The Phillies loss puts their record at 15-7, the Diamondbacks are now 9-12.
The Chicago White Sox defeated the Yankees 2-0. This was only their second win in twelve games. Philip Humber (2-2) pitched seven strong innings allowing no runs, one hit walking two with two K’s. Sergio Santos got his first save of the season.
Yankee starter A. J. Burnett (3-1) gave up three hits in eight innings allowing only one run, but that was enough to credit him with his first loss of the year. Curtis Granderson, Alex Rodriguez and PH Eric Chavez had the only hits for New York.
New York is now 12-7 the ChiSox go to 9-14 with the much needed win.
