TUESDAY QUICK HITS
The Orioles have a rookie who pitches like he has been in the majors for a long time. Setting a new record for the Baltimore franchise Zach Britton is the first rookie to win four games in April. Beating the Red Sox 4-1 Britton is now 4-1 in five major league
starts. He gave up one run on five hits in six innings, walking two and striking out two.
Vladimir Guerrero was three for four and Adam Jones had two RBI for the Orioles. Baltimore is now 9-12 and won only their third game in the past fourteen.
Clay Buchholz started for Boston and is now 1-3 this season with the loss. The Red Sox are now 12-10.
Roy Oswalt had his win streak stop at ten as the Phillies fell to the Diamondbacks 7-5. Oswalt lasted only three innings giving up five runs on six hits walking one with no strikeouts. Roy is now 3-1 and the Phillies 15-8.
The Philly bats came alive but not enough to get the win. They had five runs on twelve hits. Ben Francisco was two for five with a home run and two RBI. Ryan Howard was three for four and one RBI to give him twenty this season.
Daniel Hudson was 0-4 starting for Arizona and now has his first win. Hudson went six innings and gave up three runs on ten hits with no walks and six K’s. Ryan Roberts hit his fifth home run and was two for four, with two RBI. The Diamondbacks scored
seven runs on ten hits in the win and are now 10-12 this year.
Andre Ethier has now hit in twenty three straight games passing his former manager Joe Torre who had twenty two in April of 1972. The new record for April by Ethier did not help the Dodgers cause however, as they lost to the Marlins 4-2. This was the third loss in four games by the Dodgers.
Chris Volstad (2-1) was the opener for the Marlins and gets his second win. Leo Nunez got his seventh save, pitching the ninth and allowing one hit while striking out two.
