WEDNESDAY QUICK HITS
Extra innings for the Dodgers and they win to avoid a three game sweep against the Florida Marlins. Andre Ethier homered in the tenth inning for the winning run for the Dodgers. Ethier added to his major league record hitting streak for April in the fourth inning with a single. Rod Barajas also homered for the Dodgers his fifth of the year.
Chad Billingsley started for L.A. and gave up four runs on five hits. Matt Guerrier gets the win in relief and is now 2-1. Vicente Padilla notches his first save.The Dodgers are back to .500 at 13-13 for the year.
Anibal Sanchez started for the Marlins and went five innings giving up three runs on four hits. Ryan Webb is charged with his second blown save and Brian Sanches gets his first loss in one inning of relief. Sanches now 3-1 pitched the tenth giving up one
run, the home run by Ethier. Florida is 15-8 after today’s loss.
The Phillies needed a win to avoid a sweep by the Diamondbacks and received a strong outing from Cole Hamels and the long ball from their offense.
Hamels (3-1) pitched seven innings, gave up three runs on four hits walked one and struck out eight. Antoino Bastardo and Ryan Madson closed the game for Hamels.
Bastardo gave up one run in the eighth and Madson pitched a one hit ninth.
Jimmy Rollins hit his first home run of the season and his fifth double, was two for five with three RBI. Shane Victorino and Ryan Howard each hit their fourth home run of the season. The Phillies scored eight runs on twelve hits half were for extra bases,
three home runs and three doubles.
The Diamondbacks scored four runs on six hits in the 8-4 loss. Chris Young delivered with two home runs for seven on the season, he had three RBI.
Joe Saunders started for the Marlins and gets his third loss with no wins. He pitched 5.2 innings, gave up ten hits and six runs, walked one and struck out eight.
Philadelphia is 16-8 and the Marlins 10-13.
Bartolo Colon took the mound against the Chicago White Sox and the Yankees and Colon came away with a 3-1 win. Colon pitched eight solid innings allowing one run on seven hits. Mariano Rivera collected his eighth save after getting two blown saves in his last two games.
Robinson Cano connected for his sixth home run and had three RBI for New York. Cano has now homered in four of his last five games. Andruw Jones was two for three,
The White Sox still with hitting woes, have lost eleven of fourteen games, their run total at three or less in twelve of thirteen games. Carlos Quentin was three for three and Adam Dunn two for four with one RBI. The ChiSox had one run on seven hits.
Mark Buehrie (1-3) takes the loss for Chicago. The Yankees are now 13-8 and the Chicago White Sox 10-15.
