Andre Ethier’s hitting streak game record was on hold at 29 when the Dodgers faced the Cubs as he sat out today due to an inflamed left elbow.
The Dodgers lost the game 5-1 as the Cubs Carlos Zambrano pitched eight strong inning giving up one run on five hits walking one with four strike outs. Zambrano is now 4-1.
All of Chicago’s runs were the result of home runs. Geovany Soto hit his third, Carlos Pena his second and Marlon Byrd his first of the year. Chicago is now 14-16.
Los Angeles started Ted Lilly (2-3) on the mound, Lilly gave up five runs on eight hits in the loss. The Dodgers drop to 15-17 with the loss.
The Phillies hit the 20 win mark by defeating the Nationals 7-4. Their record is 20-9 having won 10 of their last thirteen games.
Vance Worley goes to 2-0 with the win, pitching six strong innings. Worley gave up a single run on four hits and struck out seven batters. Worley got his second start filling in for Joe Blanton who is on injured reserve.
Raul Ibanez broke out of his slump in the first game of the series and went three for four in game two with one RBI on a home run. Jimmy Rollins was two for four with a RBI and a walk. Rollins was back in his lead-off role for the second consecutive night. The Phillies scored seven runs on eleven hits.
Jason Marquis (1-3) went five innings, gave up seven runs on ten hits and gets his third loss of the season. The Nationals scored three runs in the ninth on a Danny Espinosa home run. The Nationals are 14-16 this season.
