THURSDAY QUICK HITS
L.A. Angels @ Boston Red Sox
The Angels clocked the Red Sox today producing eleven runs on eighteen hits in a 11-0 shutout.
John Lackey started for Boston but was gone after four innings after giving up eight runs on ten hits. His record is now 2-4 after todays loss. Scott Atchison relieved Lackey and gave up three more to the Angels on seven hits in 3.2 innings.
Bobby Abreau went two for six with three RBI for L.A. and Howard Kendrick was three for six with two RBI. Mark Trumbo delivered his sixth home run of the season. Center fielder Peter Bourjas was three for four with four runs scored.
Joel Pineiro (1-0) started for the Angels and pitched 5.2 shutout innings giving up just three hits, walking four and striking out two. Rich Thompson and Francisco Rodriguez finished the game for Pineiro’s win and kept the shutout in order.
The Angels improve their record to 18-14 and Boston is 14-17.
Washington Nationals @ Philadelphia Phillies
Roy Halladay was looking for his fifth win, the Phillies were looking for a series sweep, Raul Ibanez was looking to continue his rise from his slump. Everyone got what they were looking for. Roy (5-1) got his win, the Phillies (21-9) defeated the Nationals for the series sweep and Raul Ibanez went three for four with a home
run. A good day for the Phillies.
Halladay pitched a solid seven innings allowing two runs on six hits no walks and ten strikeouts. Antonio Bastardo pitched the eighth and gave up one run, Ryan Madson pitched a perfect ninth.
The Phillies scored seven runs on twelve hits. Shane Victorino also homered for the Phillies his fifth, it was Raul’s third. Placido Polanco went two for five and is now hitting .375 for the season.
John Lannan (2-4) gets the loss for Washington. He lasted two innings giving up six runs on seven hits. With today’s 7-3 loss to Philly the Nationals are 14-17 for the season.
