WEDNESDAY QUICK HITS
SAN DIEGO PADRES @ MILWAUKEE BREWERS
The worst hitting team in the majors came alive today and shelled the Brewers with 23 hits. The Padres started today with a .219 average but after this game things are looking much better. San Diego scored thirteen runs on 23 hits and were one hit shy of tying the club record last matched in 2003.
Jason Bartlett and Cameron Maybin both had four hits and two RBI. Ryan Ludwick was three for six with three RBI. Ludwick hit is fifth home run of the year and Chris Denorfia belted his third.
The Padres destroyed the Brewers in the eighth inning scoring eight times to take the score to 13-6, which was the final.
San Diego used six pitchers and Chad Qualls (2-2) got the win. Tim Stauffer started and gave up six runs on nine hits.
Randy Wolf started for Milwaukee and lasted 3.1 innings. He gave up five runs on twelve hits. The Brewers also used six pitchers and Kameron Loe (2-4) got the loss.
The Brewers scored six runs on eleven hits in the loss. Prince Fielder hit his eighth home run and Yuniesky Betancourt nailed his second.
With the win San Diego goes to 15-22 and the Brewers are now 16-21.
PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES @ FLORIDA MARLINS
It looked like a repeat of Tuesday’s game for the Phillies, good pitching but no run support for one of their four aces. Not so last night as the Phillies rallied with two runs in the ninth to beat the Marlins 5-3.
Starter Cliff Lee was done after six innings and lifted for a pinch hitter. He gave up three runs on seven hits, struck out four with no walks. J.C. Romero pitched a perfect seventh and Kyle Kendrick (3-2) a scoreless eighth for the win. Ryan Madson gets his fifth save for the Phillies pitching the ninth.
Shane Victorino hit his sixth home run for the Phillies and Jimmy Rollins went one for five with two RBI.
The Phillies win this series 2-1 and are 24-12. The Marlins are now 21-15.
