MONDAY QUICK HITS
PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES @ ST.LOUIS CARDINALS
The Phillies scored six runs total in their last three games and are 0-3 in those games. Any good pitching efforts on their part have ended in a loss simply due to the total lack of offense. Cliff Lee did not pitch his ‘A’ game but when the offense is not even on
their ‘D’ game it is difficult to win anything.
Jimmy Rollins was two for five and accounted for two of the Phillies five hits. Ryan Howard was 0-1 walking in his first three at bats. Shane Victorino sat out last nights game as did Placido Polanco. Polanco did come in later in the game as a pinch hitter
but struck out looking.
Cliff Lee is now 2-4 after his loss. He went 6.1 innings giving up three runs on six hits, walked six and struck out four.
Jake Westbrook (3-3) started for the Cardinals and got the win. Westbrook pitched seven strong innings and gave up one run on four hits. Fernando Salas recorded his fourth save.
The Cardinals scored three runs on seven hits with six walks. Ryan Theriot went two for two with two walks and one RBI. Nick Punto was two for four, scored one run and had one RBI.
St. Louis is 23-19 and the Phillies are 25-15 after their three game skid. This is the first time this season the Phillies have lost three in a row.
