Vance Worley got the start for the Phillies replacing Joe Blanton and the youngster pitched five good innings allowing three runs on six hits. He left the game with a 3-3 tie. It remained that way until the ninth inning when Ryan Madson loaded the bases and with two out Jay Bruce cleared them with a double. This was Madson’s first loss for the Phillies and is now 2-1.
The Phillies had eight hits with Raul Ibanez going three for four, one RBI and scoring two runs. Carlos Ruiz was two for three, with one RBI.
The Reds scored six runs on ten hits and Jay Bruce was one for five with three RBI on his ninth inning double. Joey Votto went two for three with two walks and scored two runs.
The Phillies are ten games over .500 at 29-19. Cincinnati is now 26-23.
