PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES @ NEW YORK METS
The Phillies rallied in the eighth inning again to defeat the Mets 5-2. With a record of 33-19 the Phillies are now sitting with the best record in the majors.
Cole Hamels (7-2) notched his seventh win going seven innings allowing two runs on seven hits, walked none and struck out ten. Jose Contreras pitched a perfect eighth and Ryan Madson picked up his eleventh save in as many tries.
Ryan Howard was one for four but picked up two RBI to give him forty on the year. Chase Utley went two for three with a walk, scored two and had one RBI.
The Phillies had eight hits and five of those were doubles. They also scored all of their runs with two outs.
Mike Pelfrey started for the Mets and pitched 7.2 strong innings allowing just two runs on four hits. Mike O’Connor relieved Pelfrey and gets the loss. The Mets scored two runs on seven hits with Justin Turner(19) and Jason Bay(9) collecting the two RBI.
The Mets are now 23-28 with the Mets relievers sporting a brutal 12.46 ERA in the last six games.
