NEW YORK YANKEES @ CINCINNATI REDS

    No homers for the Yankees but a four run first inning was enough to give the Yankees what they needed for a 5-3 win over the Reds.

    Rookie Ivan Nova (7-4) went eight innings and allowed just one run on four hits, he allowed no walks and struck out seven for the win. Mariano Rivera pitched the ninth and recorded save number eighteen for the Yankees.
   Alex Rodriguez and Robinson Cano each had two hits and a RBI as the  Yankees connected on nine well placed hits for five runs. Robinson Cano had the Yankees only extra base hit, a double.
Travis Wood (5-5) started for the Reds and gets the loss. Except for the  first inning he pitched a good game. He gave up four runs in the first and then settled down to allow none through the next six.
   The Reds managed three runs on six hits. Inter- league play has not been going well for the Reds who are now 1-6 against the American League. New York is now 42-29 and the Reds are 38-36.
   The Phillies had the day off and face St Louis Tuesday with Roy Halladay  on the mound for Philadelphia. Currently the Phillies, Yankees, and Red Sox are the only teams in the majors who have yet to lose thirty games or more this season. The Phillies and Red Sox have lost 28  and the Yankees 29 games.
