FRIDAY QUICK HITS
ATLANTA BRAVES @ PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES
A rain delay before the game started, almost two hours, but once it did start it was a pitchers duel between two pretty good pitching staffs.
The Phillies started Roy Halladay, he went seven innings allowing two runs on six hits, walked none and had seven K’s. Michael Stutes pitched a perfect eighth, with a pitch count of eleven. Antonio Bastardo pitched a perfect ninth with a pitch count of eight. The tenth belonged to Juan Perez (1-0), nine pitches three K’s for a perfect inning. Perez was rewarded for his performance with his first major league win by Raul Ibanez, who nailed a walk-off homer in the bottom of the tenth for a 3-2 win.
The other big winner was Phillies manager Charlie Manuel, as he collected his 600th career win with the Phillies. Charlie took over the Phillies in 2005. His first two years the team finished 2nd and for the next four years 1st, with two Pennants and a World Series. Congratulations Charlie and THANKS!
Brandon Beachy started for the Braves and went six innings giving up two runs on eight hits. Scott Proctor (1-3) gets the loss.
The Phillies are 56-33 after the win and Atlanta 53-37. Philadelphia now leads the Braves by 3.5 games.
