WASHINGTON NATIONALS @ PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES

Philadelphia looked to even the series at 1-1 with a win today and Washington did what they could to help them secure that win. All went well as the Phillies beat them soundly at home by a score of 11-3. The Phillies scored eleven times on nine hits with the help
of seven walks and three Washington errors that led to seven Phillies runs.

 

Ryan Howard had another great night going two for four with four RBI. Howard’s hot run could be partly due to Hunter Pence the new Phillies right fielder who bats behind Howard. Since coming to Philadelphia batting in that spot, Ryan has six homers, is batting .333 and has seventeen RBI in fourteen games. Ryan likes the move without a doubt.

 

The Phillies had only one extra base hit and that was Howard’s 26th homer. Shane Victorino was two for five and is now batting .313, Hunter Pence went one for three with two walks and is hitting .311.

Roy Oswalt got his second start since coming off the DL and gets the win. Roy went seven innings giving up three runs on six hits walking one with five K’s. His record is now 5-7 and is looking and feeling better since his return. Michael Stutes pitched the final two innings for the Phillies allowing only one hit walking one with one strikeout.

John Lannan (8-8) started for the Nationals and gets the loss. Michael Morse went two for four and Ian Desmond two for three for Washington each getting one RBI.

The series is tied at one game each and the Phillies have Roy Halladay on the mound Sunday for the rubber match. Washington will counter with Chien-Ming Wang.

If the weather holds game time is 1:35 and Philadelphia will be looking to get within one game of 80 wins for the season. They are currently 78-41 and the Nationals are 57-62.
