TUESDAY QUICK HITS

ATLANTA BRAVES @ PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES

Game two of the series and another rain delay for the Phillies. Rain delays actually scare me cause the Phillies seem to be out of sync when they are involved in one. No proof but it sure seems to be the deal.

Tonight the Phillies got off to a quick start after the delay as Chase Utley nailed a solo shot, his tenth and Raul Ibanez singled in Ryan Howard in the first inning. Dan Uggla got one back with his 33rd home run in the fourth to cut the lead to 2-1. With the bases loaded no out in the sixth the Braves could only score once for the tie. Philadelphia came right back in the bottom of the sixth with two runs to go ahead 4-2.

Ryan Howard scored on a wild pitch and Raul Ibanez doubled in Hunter Pence for the second score of the inning.

Vance Worley started for the Phillies and left the game after pitching six strong innings. Vance allowed two runs on seven hits with three walks and  six K’s. Michael Stutes relieved Worley in the seventh and gave up one run as the Braves cut the lead to one at 4-3.

The Phillies came right back in the seventh and picked up a run on Ryan Howard’s 108th RBI on a fielders choice. Raul Ibanez collected his third RBI of the game with a single to make the score 6-3 after seven.

Brad Lidge came in for the eighth and shut the Braves down giving up one hit. In the ninth Ryan Madson came in looking for his 28th save. Ryan gave  up one hit and closed the door on the Braves to collect his save and a win for the Phillies.
 

Vance Worley gets the win and is 11-1 this season. The Phillies are 14-0 in  his last fourteen starts the most for a rookie since Wayne Simpson did it for the Reds in 1970. He is one game away from the last Phillies pitcher to have fifteen team wins, that was Steve Carlton in 1972.

Philadelphia gets their 90th win, take two in a row from Atlanta and are now 9.5 games ahead of the Braves. In the "Final 33" they are 7-2, ten games from the 100 win mark, 24 games left to play.
