PHILLIES 2011 NATIONAL LEAGUE EAST CHAMPIONS

PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES @ ATLANTA BRAVES

The Phillies started their final regular season series tonight in Atlanta against the Braves. It was game one of the three game set and Cliff Lee got the start along  with the ‘first line’ Phillies lineup. Not too often they play together but they are getting ready for this weekend when the playoffs begin.

 

All went well as Lee pitched six strong innings giving up two early runs on five hits, no walks and six K’s. The offense showed up for the second game in a row scoring four runs on ten hits.

A pretty good effort by all for the 4-2 win over the Braves. I think it was a little extra special having the regulars in the game as the Phillies won their 100th game of the 2011 season. Lee is now 17-8.

The Phillies are and will be the only team in the majors to hit that mark in the regular season for 2011. NICE!

The Phillies are NOW 100-60! They are 16-15 in the "Final 33". They are now one  win away from tying the franchise record of 101 wins in a regular season. There  are two games remaining.

AMERICAN LEAGUE WILD CARD

Boston loses again and Tampa Bay wins. They are now tied in the wild card race in the American League.

NATIONAL LEAGUE WILD CARD

Atlanta was a game in front of St. Louis for the wild card berth at the beginning of play tonight. Their loss and a loss by St.Louis in extra innings to Houston keeps it at a one game lead for the Braves.
