There was pandemonium as people run away from a crowd which was pushing towards the Police Station in Mzuzu, Northern Malawi to release one of the suspects who was arrested for allegedly beating up a suspected witch.
The mob came from Salisbury line and other parts of the city of Mzuzu.
The accused, only reported as Simwaka, accused a lady in the location only mentioned as Luhanga of teaching his children witchcraft.
It is then that a quarrel erupted and Luhanga was injured in the process.
The Police were told and arrested Simwaka.
The crowd, which also included small children that were allegedly taught by Luhanga witchcraft, went with the crowd to the Police.
Sources say the mob was angry because they had arrested a victim of witchcraft leaving the accused scott-free.
Sources at the police station opting for anonymity said in an interview the mob was in an uncompromising mood after it was alleged that many children in the location had been taught witchcraft.
It is alleged that wizards and witches like to teach children witchcraft because when they are sent to kill their relations they do so without considering many factors.
Issues of wicthraft are rampant in Malawi.Recently the Chiradzulu Magistrate Court in Southern Malawi found an uncle and an aunt guilty for teaching their nephews and nieces witchcraft.
Recently chiefs have been pressing their members of parliament to include witchcraft in the constitution so that those praticising it should be punished.
