Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s style of rule has attracted the United States of America after Europe.
On Thursday, a 18-member US Congress delegation headed by Aaron Schock invited Modi to visit their country .This is indicative of the fact that the US has ended the long pending distaste for this prospective candidate for Prime Ministership in 2014 elections.
Republican Congressmen from Illinois, Aaron Schock along with his 18-member delegation called on him at his official residence after their visit to Sabarmati Gandhi Ashram. They held over an hour-long closed-door meeting with him and high ranking state officials. Cynthia Lummis (Wyoming) and Cathy M Rodgers (Washington) were the other two Republican Congress members in the delegation.
After the meeting Schock was quoted as saying, “We are grateful to Chief Minister Narendra Modi. We learnt about the development. It is much easier to do business in Gujarat. Modi is very dynamic person. We have extended an invitation to the Chief Minister to visit USA and share his ideas with us,"
However, no promise on a visa for Modi came from Schock. Modi had been denied visa by the US since 2005 for alleged mishandling of the post-Godhra riots. The highest-level US delegation which met Modi since the riots said that they would work with the US administration for his visa. The delegation said that Modi’s efforts to renovate the state’s economy have "impressed" them.
The Unites States in 2005 the post-Godhra riots of 2002, had denied diplomatic visa to Modi and his already granted B-1/B-2 visa has, also, been revoked under a section of the Immigration and Nationality Act which makes him ineligible for the visa.
However, Gujarat CM`s office, maintained silence on the issue of invitation to visit the US in its press release.
Modi expressed his thanks to the members of US Congress and business persons for their kind words on Gujarat’s developmental process…
