Movement against hike in electricity tariff gains momentum in Orissa

There is increasing resentment in masses against the proposed hike in electricity fare in Orissa. As per the informed sources, the new structure of tariff would be 40% more than the present one.

Orissa is one of the most backward states in India with lowest per capita income. Such an increase in tariff would not be sustainable for the common people. Various political and other types of organizations are now preparing to stage demonstrations against this new tariff.

The government is bearing huge losses because of faulty distribution, less production and theft of power by various organizations. As per estimation, the loss is around 800 crores of rupees per annum. To cover up such loss, it has resorted to increase in price. If the proposed tariff is implemented, it will be a heavy burden to the poor people of Orissa.
