MRTS Stations in Chennai have become the latest place for lovers hangover

With the onset of summer, Chennai is facing yet another novel problem.East Coast Road, Elliot’s Beach, SpencersPlaza, Valluvar Kottam and Gandhi Mandapam. Do you know what are they? Certainly it is not meant to test your skill or reasoning to find the odd man out.But, of late, these are places which are considered favorite hangouts for lovers in the Chennai city.

The latest hangover for the lovers that has been added in the above list is the MRTS stations, where one can see lovers spend hours together during lazy afternoons.

The MRTS stations from ChennaiBeach to Velacherry have fewer commuters camparing with the routes that lie between ChennaiBeach and Tambaram. The stations are usually  desolate during the day, except for a few commuters every now and then, which has made it an ideal location for  young lovers. During the summer, beaches and parks are ruled out due to their climatic condition. But between 11 am and 4 pm, stations like Perungudi, Chepauk and Kotturpuram, that wear a deserted look serves as a viable option for lovers, who prefer both privacy and comfort.

During peak hours, employees of IT parks in Thiruvanmiyur and Perungudi throng the station. But during the day, even station masters are not to be seen in some stations.

One Station Master from Thirumayilai station said that of late the number of young lovers who come to the stations, has increased considerably, who by sitting on the benches and non-functioning escalators, are spending their time hours together and it has become a great nuisance.The Railway employees are helpless because all the youngsters have either tickets or season tickets with them.

Similarly an employee in the ParkTown remonstrates, “Why don’t these lovers go to park and beach to spend their time and why should they come to public places like MRTS stations ? Something has to be done”.  

However, a college student by name Prabu Selvaraj says, “Of late, beach and parks have become overcrowded and heat and so uncomfortable for us to meet So we come to these Railway Stations. Nothing wrong with it. Nobody has any right to say where the lovers should hang out.”
