UP Chief Minister Ms.Mayavati on Sunday forced fisheries minister Jamuna Prasad Nishad to resign after he was named as an accused in the murder of a police constable in Maharajganj district. Ms.Mayavati summoned him to her residence on Sunday afternoon and asked him to resign.
Ms.Mayavati also promptly ordered for a magisterial enquiry into the incident and announced a total compensation of 24 lakhs to the relatives of the diceased.
The Chief Minister of UP also forwarded the resignation letter of the minister to the UP Governor T.V.Rajeshwar for acceptance.
Ms.Mayavati would also set up a medical board to examine the alleged rape victim and action would be taken if it was found a false report had been lodged.
She said that though the minister had pleaded innocence, she would not shield anyone who found to involve in unlawful activities.
The minister Jamuna Prasad had actually stormed into the Maharajganj police station along with his supporters to protest against the police, who was said to have shielding a rape accused.
According to the sources, a girl belonging to the Nishad community had been allegedly raped in Rampur Buzurg village and the culprit was handed over to the police.Howver rape was not confirmed after the medical examination of the victim and the police booked the accused on charges of eve teasing.
The enraged Nishad community, led by the minister allegedly stormed into the police station, broke open the lock of the armoury and snatched the rifles of the policemen on dity. As the minister’s official car began to drive away, a shot was fired that hit the constable Krishnanand Rai, who died on the way to the hospital.
What Ms.Mayavati did as the Chief Minister of UP was prompt and her action was immediate and above all she did not want to shield the Minister who was allegedly involved in the murder case and became an accused.
