Udhampur/Jammu, May 22 (Scoop News) – President of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti while reiterating resolve of her party to restore lasting peace in the state, today said that previous PDP-Congress regime had build an atmosphere of trust and confidence in the State.
Addressing a meeting of party workers at Udhampur which was organized by district president of the party Sukhdev Sharma, Mehbooba Mufti said that PDP led regime, through its conviction and sincerity, had facilitated peace and reconciliation process which positively transformed the political discourse not only within the State, but throughout the country.
She especially mentioned that during the previous PDP-Congress regime not only developmental activities were accelerated but efforts to restore peace were also gone simultaneously.
“It was only due to the visionary policies of PDP that peace started grew manifold after 2002 onwards resulting into the historical speech of former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee in which he had announced to solve Kashmir problem under the purview of humanity and had also extended the hand of friendship towards Pakistan. “The process was further taken up by the present UPA regime headed by Dr Manmohan Singh”, she said.
“The present dispensation has failed to take benefit of the favourable situation of peace presented to it by after 2008 assembly elections”, she observed, adding, “instead of consolidating the process of peace and reconciliation this regime has left no stone unturned to vitiate the atmosphere by its mishandling and mis-goverance in the State”.
Pointing towards results of the on-going Panchayat elections, she said overwhelming response of the PDP in these elections was endorsement of the pro-peace agenda of the party and appreciation of the good work of the previous PDP-Congress regime. Results of the Panchayat elections are also reflections of the peoples’ anger and resentment against the mis-goverance of the present dispensation
Further highlighting achievements of the previous PDP led regime, she said that with limited mandate and whatever sources available, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, as Chief Minister of the State, not only restored peace in the State but also provided good governance through equitable development in all regions of the State, “Everything was distributed equally with in all regions of the State be it Universities, colleges, schools or primary health centres”, she said.
PDP chief particularly mentioned towards failure of the present regime to even get the annual plan finalized after passing of five moths of this year. “One can well imagine the impact of this casual approach of the government on the development activities”, she observed.
Expressing her gratitude towards people of Udhampur for electing large number of PDP Sarpanches and Panches members, she said that party has received overwhelming support in the on-going Panchayat elections through out the State, which is a clear indication that PDP has been emerging as premier political party of the State.
Pointing towards demands raised by the local people, she stressed on the need of effectively exploiting tourism potential to create job avenues of the local youth. She demanded that tourism destinations in Udhampur namely Panchari, Sudhmahadev, Patnitop, Sanasar, Mantalia etc should be properly developed to attract maximum number of tourists which will provide job appornties to the youth of the areas. She also demanded that ancient Krimichi temples should also brought on tourist map.
Ex-MLC Ved Mahajan, while speaking on the occasion, said that victory of such a large number of PDP supported Sarpanches and Panches in the on-going Panchayat elections is a clear indication that people have realized only PDP has vision to address their aspirations. He said that policies and programmes of the PDP were formulated by incorporating wishes and aspirations of all regions and sub-regions. He demanded road connectivity in Udhampur district.
Earlier district president of party Sukhdev Sharma introduced Sarpanches and Panches of PDP who have won recently held Panchayat elections in Udhampur district. He also highlighted problems of Udhampur district.Senior PDP leader Daman Bhasin, Suresh Sharma, Rajinder Manhas, Partap Sharma and others were present on the occasion.
