Bani (Kathua)/Jammu, June 28 (Scoop News) – Seeking support of the people to change destiny of the residents of Jammu and Kashmir, patron of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said that it was his desire to establish a system where every sections of the society would get justice and equal opportunities for development and economic growth.
Addressing a public meeting at Bani town, Mufti said that during its tenure the PDP led regime had proved its capability of changing life of the common masses by treating all individual equally and providing equal opportunities to all sections of the society. “Although we had just 16 members in the Assembly, we provided good governance to the people by streamlining functioning of all the wings of the government”, he said and added that it was only during the PDP led regime that governance consciousness was generated in the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the common masses had a taste of good governance. “During our tenure, I utilized my 50 years long political experience to provide good governance to the people of
He added that PDP led regime had brought transparency and accountability in the governance by strengthening democratic institutions in the state. He especially mentioned that during PDP led regime more than 70,000 youth were appointed as teachers under Rebar-e-Talim (ReT) scheme and more than 30,000 Anganwari workers were also appointed. “Not only a single case of favouritism or nepotism were reported during our tenure because appointments were made with complete transparency and accountability to ensure that only deserving people would get jobs”, he said and dared his opponents to come with single example of favouritism or backdoor appointment during PDP led regime. He, however, regretted that the present regime has been brazenly indulged into backdoor appointments in government jobs.
“The present regime has miserable failed to do justice with the people as it has not fulfill any of the promises made with the people during 2008 elections”, he observed, adding “corruption has crossed all limits during the last three and half years because there is no transparency and accountability in the governance”.
Reiterating that attaining power was not the only aim of PDP, Mufti recalled that after 2002 assembly elections PDP had entered into alliance with Congress when almost all the important demands of the party were incorporated in the Common Minimum Programme (CMP). “Unlike other parties we never compromised with our agenda”, he said and added that agenda of his party was to restore dignity and honour of the people and to provide justice to all sections of the society.
Mufti added that during PDP led regime all regions were treated equally but special attention was paid towards far-flung and backward areas like Bani. He said that comprehensive developmental policies were formulated for such areas. He reminded that it was only during PDP-Congress coalition that a degree college was sanctioned at Bani and a tourist circuit from Lakhanpur to Bhaderwah via Bani-Sarthal was announced. “Days are not far when tourists will enter Bhaderwah from Bani via Sarthal area”, he said.
He said that Bani area has huge tourism potential and there was a need to properly exploit tourism of this belt. “Properly utilization of tourism potential of Bani would bring change in the socio-economic conditions of the people of this backward belt”, he said and assured that power PDP when come to power, would formulate a comprehensive plan for this belt to change fate of the people of Bani and adjoining localities.
While emphasizing on providing quality education to the people of such backward areas, he asked the authorities to introduce job oriented courses at Degree College Bani so that pass out students from this college would get jobs without any problem.
Pointing towards deplorable conditions of roads, he demanded that on going work on roads connecting Bani with rest of the state should be expedited. He said that work on Basholi-Bani-Bhaderwah road should be accelerated.

He said that it was only during his three year regime equal treatment was given to all regions and sub-regions of the State. “Before formation of PDP led regime in 2002, there were complaints of discrimination and step motherly treatments with some regions”, he recalled, adding “PDP-Congress regime had not only removed these discrimination but also empowered Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions equally”
Coming down heavily on National Conference regime for taking confrontation with the government employees, Mufti said that this attitude of the government was wrong. “It is unfortunate that instead of involving employees in dialogue process to solve their problems, the government has adopted adamant attitude”, he said asked the government to solve all genuine demands of the government employees, who according to him, were instruments of the any government to provide good governance to the people. “We provided good governance to the people only by utilizing services of the same government employees”, he said.
Speaking on the occasion, general secretary of PDP Thakur Balbir Singh called upon the people to compare performance of PDP led government with decades long mis-governance of successive National Conference (NC) regimes. He said that as far as the performance of the present regime was concerned, it appears only on papers and nothing concrete was visible on ground. “For the last three and half years functioning of this dispensation is appearing only on papers and at grassroots level not even a single promise has been so far implemented”. He reminded the gathering that during campaign of the last assembly elections, National Conference had made a number of promises with the people but these promises are yet not translated into reality. “We will not remain a mute spectator to the misdeeds of the government”, he asserted and reiterated his solve to make PDP a voice of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
