Robert Mugabe impressed by unity of Malawians during the first lady’s funeral
The President of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe said he was impressed by the unity that prevailed in the country in mourning the First Lady Mrs. Ethel Mutharika
Ethel Mutharika, wife to the State President Dr Bingu Wa Mutharika, died of cancer on 28 May 2007.
Mugabe, who came for burial said he hoped the country would continue in getting united even after her death.
The opposition in Malawi threatened to shoot down the country’s national budget in Parliament soon before her death.
The opposition said unless the government properly accounts for the money it spent for the 2006/2007 budget it would not pass the 2007/2008 budget.
This caused anxiety among many Malawians , particularly civil servants who rely on government for their salaries and farmers who live in rural areas.
The government of Malawi subsidises some farm inputs .This subsidy is effected after passing the national budget.
