The Shi’ite Muslims of India took part in processions to observe Muharram. The procession marks the death anniversary of Imam Hussain, a grandson of the Prophet Mohammad,who was killed in a battle with political rival Yazid at Kerbala in Iraq in AD 680.The mourners flogging themselves or beating their chests in the processions traditionally mark the day.
