Reliance Infotel, a communication based subsidiary of Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), is all set to lead the way for rolling out 4G broadband services in India. 4G broadband, the next generation broadband service is set to see the light of day by early 2012 and field experts are looking up to Reliance Infotel to build alliances with vendors and deploy the new technology.

4G broadband service contracts are expected to be finalized between the October-December 2011 quarter and operators, including Reliance Infotel, are expected to start rolling out services to consumers by early 2012 when favorable operational conditions are in place, which includes design and production of latest handsets, data cards and updated networks.

Moving from tier I and resource rich sectors to lower tiered segments, Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology or 4G will be launched across India. This latest technology will allow data downloads at higher speeds, as compared to its current 3G version.

Mukesh Ambani’s Infotel, which won licenses in 22 circles in Pan India Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) Spectrum during the auction for BWA 4G Spectrum conducted by the DoT in June 2010, will see its inaugural step in the broadband communication sector with the roll out of its 4G services. Industry experts are optimistic that LTE technology, as instated by Infotel, will get consumer approval in short period of time, just like 2G and 3G technology; despite the fact that price of handsets directly affects availing of latest technology services. But with telecom ecosystem now maturing at a fast pace to keep up with the technical advancement, the shift to LTE is likely to run smooth.

Infotel Broadband Ltd plans to set in place world class technology using an asset light strategy. RIL will forge several strategic relations with a host of leading global technology vendors, service providers, infrastructure providers, application developers, device manufacturers in an effort to lead India into 4G broadband services.
