Congress I , is holding a dinner at the Prime Minister’s residence to the constituents of UPA on the eve of the completion of 4 years in power at the central government It is an irony that their hard critic and and a third front leader, Mr.Mulayam Singh Yadav, the leader of the SP party has also been extended with an invitation for the proposed dinner, which has raised many an eyebrows.
The underlying principle in inviting Mr.Mulayam Singh is simple. In politics there are no permanent friends or permanent enemies.Again in the recetly held by-elections to three MP seats, all seats were won by BSP under Ms.Mayavati, the ruling party in UP.Both Congress I and SP parties are licking their election wounds. After all Mulayam Singh is a hard critic of Ms.Mayavati and dead against her, who had thrown him out of power in the UP.Then ,Mulayam Singh being an enemy of enemy is therefore a friend i.e an enemy of BSP, therefore, he is qualified to receive an invitation to the dinner.
Another political motive lies behind it.In UP both SP and Congress I are hardpressed against the BSP and both parties have performed dismally in the recently held by-elections to the Lok Sabha in the UP.Congress I is also wary of the fact that the forthcoming general election to the Lok Sabha is fast approaching in the year 2009.Therefore, this dinner invitation is also to maintain a rapport with Mulayam Singh so as to forge an alliance in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in the year 2009.
In the political game of chess, every move of the coin counts. Therefore, the dinner invitation extended to Mulayam Singh Yadav is nothing but a move of a coin in the political game of chess and the mover of the coin is Congress I.
