Mumbaikars to get a great relief from crowded local trains and the growing traffic snarls

In two years Mumbaikars traveling from Mumbai’s commercial centre Nariman Point to Borivali will reach their destination in 45 minutes.

Instead of taking local trains or traveling by roads they will be able to travel by waterway & enjoy themselves in the cool breeze of the Arabian sea . They will thus get a great relief from the growing traffic snarls and crowded local trains.

A new mega passenger water transport project is going to come up along the western coast of Mumbai. The first phase of the project will cost Rs 700 crores or 7 billion Indian Rupees.

In the first phase, the service will be available between Nariman Point and Borivali. There will be six stops and they are  :

• Borivali
• Marve
• Versova
• Juhu
• Bandra
• Nariman Point.

Initially the project will use hovercrafts and later catamarans will be pressed into service. The capacity of the hovercrafts will be a minimum of 200 seats.

The distance between Nariman point and Borivali is estimated to be 35 to 40 km. Estimated time taken will be around 45 minutes. The travel cost will be Rs 2 per km and a ride from Nariman point to Borivali will cost around Rs 80.
