While Musharraf’s government claims that the Islamic militants were responsible, they responded back dismissing their claims. The pro-Taliban forces in Pakistan have strongly denied that they were responsible for the suicide attack that ended the life of opposition leader, Benazir Bhutto was deemed the hope for a democratic country.
In addition, aides to Bhutto say they strongly doubt that the militant cleric Baitullah Mehsud was behind the suicide attack. They strongly blame President Pervez Musharraf of a possible cover up.
Violence throughout the country sparked after her death. The dispute and the conflicting reports about how Bhutto died was added fuel to the fire. This is just two days after Benazir Bhutto was killed in the suicide bomb attack. On Saturday, three of Benazir Bhutto’s supporters were shot dead.
Burning vehicles had littered the roads across the southern Sindh province. Many buildings were burned in Karachi with 17 people dead and dozens more injured.
While the government has released a transcript implicating that Mehsud congratulated those who carried out the killing, he strongly denied it.
Maulana Mohanned Umer, spokesman for Mehsud denies the allegations and called them as propaganda by Musharraf’s government.
“The fact is that we are only against America, and we don’t consider political leaders of Pakistan our enemy,” said Umer. He added that he was speaking on instructions from Mehsud.
