‘Muslim Car’ to be developed by Malaysian car-maker

Proton, the Malaysian car-maker has announced plans to develop an "Islamic car", designed for Muslim motorists.The car would be fitted with special features like a compass pointing to Mecca and a dedicated space to keep a copy of the Koran and a headscarf.  Proton is planning on teaming up with manufacturers in Iran and Turkey to create the unique vehicle. The idea came during a visit to the Middle East by a delegation of Malaysian politicians and businessmen. Media in Malaysia speculate that officials in Iran originally suggested the idea. Proton believes that there is a huge gap in the international car market in terms of cars meant exclusively for Muslims. The firm is currently in talks with VW regarding a takeover by the German car giant.
