Condemning brutal killing of innocent and peaceful protestors in Mendhar by
police forces on Wednesday, President Muslim Welfare Trust (MWT) M. A. Sartaj
said that they (MWT) will allow the youth to become object to bullets or baton.
Talking media persons Sartaj announced abandoning of cycle of protest being
held across region against alleged desecration of holy Koran in USA last week.
Sartaj informed that representatives from all the mosques attended Friday
prayers in Jamia Masjid at Talab Khatican, which followed by peaceful protest
inside premises. Sloganeering against and burning of American flag besides
chanting of Islamic slogans marked the protest.
Heavy deployment of police was witnessed near every mosque
where Muslims usually used to offer Friday prayers, though police authorities
had taken representative of various Muslim organizations in confidence for
today’s peaceful prayers. Barring a mild protest by self styled Muslim leader
Hilal Baig who was underground and police was searching him for the last couple
of days. Abruptly surfaced in the premises after prayers and started shouting
slogans against America. He also tried to come on road but the attempt was
foiled by vigilant police force on guard, by frisking him to nearby police
post.
Former Public Works Department (PWD) Minister, G. R Saroori,
who was in headlines for last month for his daughter’s allegedly involvement in
impersonation in MBBS/BDS entrance examinations also offered prayers at Jamia
Masjid here. It may be recalled that Saroori was expelled from cabinet of
ministers last month after he had left for performing Umrah. He was again in
news when there were no reports of his presence in and around the state.
Reports from all other localities were recorded as peaceful and
no untoward incident has occurred so far. Muslims in general expressed
gratitude of non-Muslims brethren of the region for their cooperation and
support. It is important to mention that for the past 20 years people of Jammu
including all shades have maintained tranquility and brotherhood at every cast.
