The list of my favorite movies constantly evolves. Here is the list for today:
1) The Battle of Algiers, directed by Gillo Pontecorvo
2) African Queen, directed by John Huston
3) Avatar, directed by James Cameron
4) Spike of Bensonhurst, directed by Paul Morrisey
5) Baby Take a Bow, directed by Harry Lachman
6) Beginners, directed by Mike Mills
7) Black Orpheus, directed by Marcel Camus
8) Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, directed by David Hand
9) Shockproof, directed by Douglas Sirk
10) How Some Jellyfish Are Born, directed by Jean Painlevé
Notes: Baby Take a Bow was the first full-length Shirley Temple movie. Jean Painlevé was an avant-garde filmmaker who began making undersea documentaries in the 1920s. Paul Morrisey made some of the later Andy Warhol movies, like Trash, Heat and Women in Revolt. Shockproof is a sympathetic story about a female murderer.
