Myanmar has suspended rice exports in a bid to control spirally upward prices and not to lead the price hike due to shortages in the country. The halt started in the last week of February, an official of Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry-UMFCCI said. According the editorial of of the military government’s mouth-piece the New Light of Myanmar, the country puts over 16 million acres of rain-fed fields in rainy season and over 3 million acres in irrigated fields under rice, reaching per-year output of over 1500 million baskets.
