Mysterious death of Police driver 2 IRP DSPs attached, cop suspended

Taking serious note of mysterious death of a police driver at the residence of a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at Sainik Colony, Jammu yesterday, the higher authorities of Indian Reserve Police (IRP) ordered attachment of two DSPs for departmental enquiry.

Shahid Mohammad, son of Abdul Qayoom Bhat of Ward No. 10, Rajouri, who was a driver of IRP, was deputed with DSP Daljeet Singh of IRP 11th Battalion and found dead under mysteriously circumstances at the officer’s residence yesterday, where he had gone to get leave sanctioned for his marriage, which was scheduled for December 11, 2011. Sources confirmed that two DSPs of the 11th IRP Bn, Daljit Singh and Mohinder Singh were attached today, while a police constable was suspended in connection with the incident.

They alleged that the poor cop visited the office of Battalion yesterday but he was denied permission to meet him by the guards on the gate.

According to sources, the deceased cop had snatched the revolver of DSP’s Personal Security Officer (PSO) and shot himself dead yesterday and later, his dead body was shifted by police to Government Medical College Hospital, Jammu for postmortem, which was conducted today.

Meanwhile, hundreds of people gathered in Rajouri and held a massive protest demonstration this evening at Rajouri Bridge and blocked the movement of vehicular traffic for hours demanding suspension of the DSP and proper investigation of the case.

However, District Development Commissioner (DDC), Rajouri and Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Rajouri rushed to the spot and assured the protestors for proper investigation into the incident.

Relatives and family members of the deceased police driver alleged that their son was always harassed by his superiors and height of things was that they didn’t even sanctioned leave for his marriage. “When there was no emergency like situation in the State, why police or security forces personnel are denied leave,” they questioned, adding, “Instead of two months leave, 15 days leave could have been easily sanctioned in his favour.”

Talking to KASHMIR IMAGES, Ravinder Singh, Commandant, IRP 11th Bn., said, “A thorough probe has already been initiated into the case,” adding, “Two officers have been attached but yet to receive official order in this regard.”
