Veteran Kollywood movie actor-comedian, Nagesh passed away this morning after suffering a heart attack. He was 77 years old. The Tamil Film Industry paid apt tributes to a man who was epitome of acting. Kamal Hasan in his tributes quoted him as an acting institution par excellence.
Rajnikanth described him as only one man who could steal a scene with aplomb and yet look appropriately apolegitcally comical to soften the blow on fellow performers. His death remarks end of an era.
His original name was Gundu Rao and was born to an orthodox Hindu Brahmin Vaishnavite family. He relocated himself in Chennai in search of a career. He stumbled into a film career in an amateur play.
Server Sundaram was his first film which itself showcased him as a multi-talented actor and it was such a stupendous hit, he never looked back after that. He had acted in more than 1000 Tamil film and sporadically appeared in other languages also. He became so busy that MGR and Shivaji Ganesan had to wait for him on the sets.
According to the family sources, his wife Regina passed away few years. He has three sons and one of them a well-known actor Anand Babu is reported to be suffering from cancer.
