Nano project is in trouble again as a newly formed organization called Rashtriya Kisan Dal filed a public interest litigation in Gujarat high court challenging the change of use of 2,200 acres of land to be given to the Tatas.
The petition filed by its president H K Thaker claimed the state government had incured a loss of Rs 1,796.95 crore in order to benefit the Tatas for its Rs 1,500 crore project. According to him the state government had encroached on 645 acres belonging to farmers and wrongfully taken possession of another 1,555 acres so that it did not have to compensate the original farmers.
Urging the court to stay the deal between the government and the company for the Tata Motors project, the petition seeks direction to the government to return the land to its original owners.
