Naveen Ningappa, a 28-year-old Indian man, was arrested in New Jersey last year, accused of attempting to meet a 12-year-old girl he met on the Internet. He is charged with crimes including solicitation to commit rape, indecent assault and attempted unlawful communication with a minor.
Naveen Ningappa does not have any family in the United States. He had been working in America for HCL Technologies, a multinational software company, when he was caught in an undercover police sting operation. Ningappa was arrested when he arrived at a Norristown, New Jersey location for what he believed would be a sexual encounter with a 12-year-old girl.
Naveen Ningappa has been held on $500,000 bail for the past nine months, a price he and his lawyer believe is unreasonably high. Ningappa also claims that he is innocent of the crimes and is being framed. He has sent numerous letters to his family and friends in India asking for help in his situation but they cannot come up with half a million dollars to post his bail.
