Nagrota, December 14, (Scoop News)- Saying focus and impetus to development under National Conference led government has changed the political discourse in Jammu and Kashmir during the past six years, the Provincial President Devender Singh Rana on Sunday hoped that people will continue to maintain distance from those hampering this process.
“It is because of the trend set in motion by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that even chronic obstructionists were finding it difficult to go before the people with agenda devoid of development”, Mr Rana said while intensifying his election campaign in Nagrota.
He addressed a series of meetings, some of these till late evening, with people becoming part of his electioneering across the constituency.
The Provincial President said Nagrota had become paradigm of development with people limiting the political space of those indulging in rhetoric. “Times have gone when self-seeking politicians used to exploit public sentiment by resorting to emotional blackmail and getting away with false promises”, he said, adding that the people want the commitments to be translated into reality on ground. He cited the example of Nagrota and said how those misrepresented the constituency over the years were finding it difficult to face the electorate because of non-performance.
Mr Rana said he has endeavoured to set a healthy political discourse in Nagrota by concentrating on development, socio-economic transformation and growth in different sectors during the past seven years. Special measures have been taken with regard to female literacy and empowerment of women and the other under-privileged segments of the society. Efforts are also underway to generate avenues of employment for the enterprising youth, who are making their mark in different fields. “There is need to harness youth potential and channelize their energies towards overall good of the society”, he added.
Keeping in view the cherished agenda of National Conference, Mr Rana said the party will never deviate from its chosen path and shall continue to work for inclusive development for all. “I am overwhelmed by the support the people of Nagrota have extended by becoming a strong component for change in the constituency. He hoped they will continue to work for development and prosperity of Nagrota which being so close to the state capital and situated on the National Highway should have been a real model of development and prosperity. “But it has not happened so far”, he said adding that efforts will have to be redoubled to transform the developmental landscape of the area in a big way. He said beginning in this regard has already been made and the day is not far when Nagrota will attain envious position in the developmental profile of the state.
