Senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Tariq Hameed Karra has said the people would teach National Conference (NC) a lesson for imposing elections on the State amid a deep sense of hurt, alienation and cynicism.
"Instead of respecting the public sentiment and press on addressing the genuine and justified concerns of the people, the NC leaders, in their lust for power, hastily pushed for elections in the State, and the results are there for everybody to see," Karra said while addressing a day-long convention of the PDP workers from Amira Kadal Zone here today.
Karra said the NC’s game-plan of grabbing power amid the uncertain situation stands fully exposed and the people would now never allow the party’s dubious designs to take shape. "NC shall have to pay a price for its follies," he said and added that NC would never like peace and stability return to the State as the party has always banked on political brinkmanship to stay in power.
Karra said the while the NC leaders have been shedding crocodile tears over the plight of the Srinagar city, let me ask them what they have done for the development of the city during the past 30 years of being in power. "Can Dr Farooq Abdullah or his son, Omar Abdullah inform the people of Srinagar about a single major tangible initiative their party has taken for the development of the city," he asked.
Karra said after having fed the inhabitants of the Srinagar city hollow slogans for decades and degrading this historic city into almost a perennial slum, the NC leaders have now shockingly started disempowering its residents politically as well. "In complete disregard for the locals, NC has now even imported the political representatives from outside for the Srinagar city," he said and added that it is for the people of the city to decide whether they want to empower their own representatives or bank upon the borrowed political dummies.
Karra said despite the coalition constraints and the limited time of delivery available with it, the PDP-led Coalition Government made a perceptible change on the developmental front in the Srinagar city and the unfinished agenda of bringing Srinagar at par with any metropolitan city in the country would be accomplished by the party in its next term in the Government with special focus on infrastructure development and employment generation for the urban youth.
"Give us the mandate and see how we are going to transform the Srinagar city into a place with world-class amenities," Karra told the gathering.
PDP district President Srinagar Ghulam Qadir Pardesi and the party leaders Haji Parvaiz and Abdul Hamid Kohsheen also addressed the convention.
