Kupwara, May 11 – Accusing the National Conference-led Government of giving practical shape to its RSS agenda by persecuting the members of the hapless Gujjar community at Karinala Chak in Jammu, PDP President Mehbooba said by perpetuating brutality against Gujjars, the NC Government is accomplishing the unfinished dubious agenda of the Sangh Parivar set off during the Amarnath land row. “PDP would not allow the NC Government to hound the members of the hapless Gujjar community with such haughtiness,” she said and added that ironically NC has all along exploited the Gujjar community as a lucrative vote bank and is now paying them back in kind. She said if trespassing was done by any person, there are civilized and legal means of dealing with the situation instead of letting loose a reign of terror on the members of the whole community.
Addressing a series of public meetings in Lolab assembly segment of the Baramulla parliamentary constituency on Monday Mehbooba Mufti said,“It is now clear that while for the NC leadership the Sangh ideology is close to their heart, they are shedding crocodile tears in Kashmir over the human rights violations in a desperate bid of emotional blackmail.” She added that people vividly remember the NC President Dr Farooq Abdullah’s applauding remarks for Narendra Modi over his victory in 2007
Reminding the audience, Mehbooba said Dr Abdullah had even defended Narendra Modi for his dubious role in post-Godhra anti-Muslim riots in 2002 when he (Dr Abdullah) had at that time said that “Modi did what was needed administratively to manage the volatile situation in his state.” She said in tune with their opportunist politics, NC while enjoying power with Congress in the State are keeping their options open for any future alliance with their friends in RSS and BJP.
Cautioning the State Government against perpetuating the policy of vendetta against Kashmiris, she said the Government has let loose a reign of repression to stifle the voices seeking justice through peaceful protests.
PDP President Mehbooba Mufti said registering FIRs against the residents of Bomai, Sopore for participating in public protests against the killing of two innocent civilians of the area is a blatant display of Government highhandedness. “The Government must immediately withdraw the FIRs registered in fabricated cases against the residents or be ready to face public wrath,” she said.
Expressing solidarity with the conscientious residents of Bomai, Mehbooba said if the Government doesn’t withdraw the FIRs against the locals, PDP would join the mass protests to seek justice for the people of the area. “In a democratic set up everybody has a right to seek justice through peaceful protests and the decision should be left to the people to choose between the right and wrong,” she said.
