NC losing ground in Kashmir, Congress in Jammu

Jammu & Kashmir: About six decades old National Conference (NC) has become subject of jolt after jolt in Kashmir as several party leaders, workers and activists are shifting loyalties continuously to other political groups. In Jammu political winds are for the first time changing directions towards Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) instead of BJP, Congress and JKNPP. Yesterday NC faced fresh jolt when its nearly 150 activists joined Peoples Conference (PC). Chairman PC Sajad Gani Lone said that more than 126 workers of ruling National Conference from Block Zadibal called on his Rawalpora residence and switched loyalty to his party. He said that delegation headed by Mohammad Ashraf Dar joined the party. “They apprised us of the problems they face in Srinagar and the exploitation they face at the hands of the ruling families,” he said. Congress was subjected to embarrassment when more than 200 workers of it and other political parties switched loyalty towards Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

People from Congress and NC are continuously joining PDP despite the fact that PDP once had pro- separatist image in the region. “We don’t have visible representation in politics here, we hope that PDP will give us chance to grow and representation in decision making bodies in the days to come” Surinder Singh new entrant in PDP said. As Congress and NC has failed at every front and people had developed faith in PDP and its leadership that is why people are joining party fold, spokesperson and senior leader PDP, Falil Singh said. Ravinder Sharma spokesperson reacting on the issue said that loyal and prominent Congress persons cannot leave Congress and join PDP for ideological reasons; however, workers come and go which hardly affects the party fold, he added.
