Jammu, December 19 (Scoop News) – One day convention of women Panchs & Sarpanchs of National Conference was held today at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan, Jammu under the Chairmanship of Bimla Luthra, MLA to felicitate newly elected MLC Dr. Shehnaz Ganai and to celebrate the victory of four coalition candidates of Member of legislative council from the quota of Panchayats. The meeting was addressing among others by Abdul Rahim Rather Finance Minister, Surjit Singh Salathia Industries & Commerce Minister, Sakina Itoo Social Welfare Minister, Rattan Lal Gupta Provincial President J&K National Conference Jammu Province, Laxmi Dutta Provincial President J&K National Conference Women’s Wing and S.S Bunty Provincial President youth National Conference .
While addressing the gathering Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather said that the victory of the coalition candidates in the elections to the four seats of Legislative Council from Panchayats is the result of hard work of Party cadre & joint campaigning of coalition leaders. He said that NC is a vibrant force in all three regions and these elections have proved it. He expressed his gratitude to the Sarpanchs & Panchs for their large participation & strengthening the democratic institutions in the state. He reiterated the commitment of the party & coalition government for a powerful and effective three tier Panchayat Raj in the state to give new dimensions to development and ensuring better planning and implementation of welfare & development programmes at grass root level.
While congratulating Dr. Shahnaz Ganai newly elected MLC, S. S. Salathia Minister for Industries& Commerce said that Sarpanchs & Panchs needs special applaud fro their massive participation and electing all four coalition candidates in these elections & ensuring a strong Panchayati Raj system in the state. He said the coalition government under the Chief Ministership of Omar Abdullah has launched various Central and State Government schemes for all round development and welfare of the people. He cautioned the people against the communal forces who want to divide the society on different grounds.
Sakina Itoo Minister for Social Welfare congratulated Sarpanchs, Panchs and NC cadre for ensuring coalition candidates victory. She said the overwhelming victory of coalition candidates is a major jolt to opposition who indulged in malicious propaganda against the coalition and tried to create wedge between the coalition partners and remained engaged in propagating the false conception that the coalition is not effective at lower level. She further said that the wholehearted support of Panchs & Sarpanchs has also nullified their claim that panchayat members have fallen apart from coalition partners. She asked the workers to remain united & work hard and closely with each other to strengthen the party at grass root level like a rock against the propagandist elements. She also expressed her serious concern over frequent incidents of rape and assault on womenfolk in general and especially in Union capital & said with such heinous crimes we cann’t claim to be a civilized society. She further said rape cases should be fast tracked in special courts and death penalty should be introduced for the rapists.Rattan Lal Gupta Provincial President said that the victory of all coalition candidates is the hard and sincere efforts of the party cadre of both NC and Congress. He expressed confidence that the victorious candidates would work to the best of their capacity to strengthen the panchayats & ensure its growth and development. To empower the women in the state is the agenda of National Conference has envisaged in the Naya Kashmir which is the dream of Sher –I- Kashmir Sheikh Mohd . Abdullah.
