Jammu, October 26 (Scoop News)-Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana on Saturday sought larger role for women in decision making and social awakening with thrust against female foeticides, saying their contribution has been immense in shaping the destiny of nation.
Speaking at a function held at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan where a group of women led by Mrs. Anju Grover joined National Conference, the Provincial President referred to enviable role being played by women in politics, administration, economy and other spheres of socio-political activities.
The new entrants were warmly greeted and profusely garlanded by the party leaders, including MLA Mrs Bimla Luthra.
Exuding confidence that joining of more and more people in the NC fold will take the party to highest pinnacles of success, the Provincial President exhorted women to come forward in a big way and contribute in the social awakening and political awareness of people, especially the women folk in remote and far off areas.
“Women have excelled in different spheres of life especially in the politics”, he maintained while recalling the role of Madr-e-Mehrban Begum Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah in taking over the huge responsibility of leading the people of State when Sher-e-Kashmir was arrested. She did not only shaped the future of her children but played key role in women literacy and their empowerment. “She was the tallest among thousands of women of her times in India who contributed towards welfare and emancipation of women in particular.
He said National Conference pioneered reservation for women in Panchayats, the basic units of democracy, which has proved highly beneficial for executing various schemes aimed at their welfare at the ground level. He also urged the women to work for social awakening, especially in ending various evils confronted to the society. Female foeticides, he said has emerged as a big challenge to the society, which calls for lead role of women leaders to nip the menace at the bud, he said.
Appreciating the sagacious decision of those who joined the party, Mr Rana said that they have aligned themselves with a mass movement that has played glorious role in the socio- economic development and political awareness in the State. He said National Conference is the only party having significant presence all over the state and ‘this feature is an eye-sore for the opponents’ who are desperately trying to weaken it. “They are destined to fail in their nefarious plans”, he said while reminding the workers how the critics of Sher-e-Kashmir’s mass movement faded from the political scene.
The Provincial President said that an onerous responsibility has cast upon National Conference to protect the State from negative forces which are scheming to disturb the peace that has dawned after sustained efforts and valuable sacrifices. He urged the party cadre to live up to the expectations of people and continue to work for their betterment.
He said that the entry of the female workers will further strengthen the party at grass roots level.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Mrs Bimla Luthra welcomed the new entrants and urged them to disseminate the policies and programmes of National Conference in the length and breadth of the State. She also exhorted the party cadre, especially the women workers to work for the ensuing elections in a big way. She exuded confidence that National Conference will triumph in the elections and establish its lead role in the state politics.
