Jammu, May 2 (Scoop News) – Lt Gen PS Bhalla, DG NCC today said that NCC has approximately 13.4 lac Cadets in its fold with seventeen Directorates covering entire country.He said that the NCC Directorate Jammu and Kashmir has a strength of 23880 Cadets in Jammu , Kashmir and Ladakh region and additional vacancies to J&K have been given for raising of new units like Air Squadron (flying), Naval Squadron and Boys company.
Lt. Gen Bhalla while addressing the media persons at Jammu said that the Boys Company has already been raised with 1400 cadets at Leh to cover the Ladakh region and raising of Air and Naval units shall commence in near future. He further informed that raising of more units are being planned to increase the coverage of NCC in rural and border areas.
Earlier on his arrival the General was received by Maj Gen NS Jamwal, ADG J&K NCC Directorate.He in Jammu for his two days visit to J&K. The General visited the NCC Directorate, Jammu and interacted with the staff.
The DG, NCC also said that the Training Philosophy of the cadets had refined to accommodate the changing aspirations of the youth and expectations of the society. He said that focus of the Directorate was to facilitate soft skills and personality development. He commented that in order to give vast coverage in most of the colleges and schools, all CBSE schools have added NCC as an elective subject under HRD Ministry. UGC has also selected 30 Autonomous Universities in the country where NCC has been chosen as elective subject. Lt Gen Bhalla said that in Jammu and Kashmir State, MIER College Jammu and Islamia College Srinagar have been selected to undertake NCC as an elective subject from this academic session.
While briefing the media persons, Lt Gen said that to promote the spirit of adventure among the youth, the National Cadet Corps (NCC) has launched an expedition to Mt Everest, the highest peak in the world with eighteen members team. Gen Bhalla also informed that Special National Integration Camp will be organised at Leh in August 2013 where cadets from all over the country shall participate and learn the culture and heritage of Ladakh region.
The General Officer with his varied command and staff appointment experiences in J&K, was also awarded Param Vishisht Seva Medal by the President of India on Republic Day-2013.
