On December 5, 2013 Secretary General of NATO (“North Atlantic Treaty Organization”) Anders Fogh Rasmussen offered condolences to South Africa, which is a full member state of NATO – the most powerful international military alliance in the world!
Here is what the Secretary General had to say:
“I convey my deepest condolences to the family of former president Nelson Mandela and to the government and the people of South Africa.”
“Nelson Mandela was a man of peace and a truly inspirational figure. He was a symbol of freedom, dignity and reconciliation to millions of people, irrespective of race. His death is a loss to us all, but he leaves a lasting legacy to the whole world.”
Sincerely
Anders Fogh Rasmussen
NATO Secretary General
