Kathmandu, Nepal May 2, 2010: Protesting against the present government and its bureaucratic system, the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) started its indefinite strike starting from today. Highlight the agitation program, the supporter were seen chanting anti government slogan and rallying around the major streets and roads of Kathmandu. The strike mainly halted the daily life of Nepal where normal people, traveler and tourist, pedestrian and daily wages people were bound to either stay at home or walk along the empty road. The vehicular system was completely brought to a halt where the security agencies were put on high alert. Similarly protesting against the government’s main operational headquarter Singh Durbar, Maoist supporters were aggressively seen creating tension in the prohibited zone. Maoist Supreme Prachanda said, “Our party is the party of the people, we stand for people’s voices and their values, and if the government cannot help address us then they have no option except to resign giving us the opportunity to fulfill people dreams and aspirations. We will be focusing the protest against the government in a peaceful way and if the government tries to suppress us then they will have to face the consequences. The major objective for us right now is to form a proper government and to lead our way to the people’s constitution.” More or less, the party has allowed opening the markets from 6 to 8 PM in the evening for the general public to stock their foods and supplies. Vehicles belonging to security agencies, media, human right groups, hospitals, expatriates and diplomatic missions were allowed to move around. Minor confrontations and vandalizing property incidents have been reported in different parts of the nation but no serious case has been reported till now. Likewise, the Higher Secondary Board (HSEB) looking at the situation and tension has dropped the 12 grade final examination which was supposed to be held today.
