CPN (Maoists) through their newly gained political status of being the single largest party, though initially insisted for both the key posts of the premiership and the president, were later reconciled to giving up the claim for presidency and staked their claim for premiership only. However, the CPN (Maoists) suggested that the post of president may preferably be given to a non-political person.

When the Nepali congress on Saturday proposed Prime Minister Girija P.Koirala, as the Nation’s first president, but the CPN(Maoists) refused to accept his candidature on the ground of his old age.Maoist Chief Pushpa Kamal Dahai alias Prachanda told N.C leader K.P. Sitaula, ‘Girija Babu can no longer be accepted as the President or the Prime Minister of this country’The Madhesi Janadhikar Forum also opposed the proposal. Their view point is correct since Koirala , aged 84 is actually suffering from respiratory disease.
But Nepal Congress is concerned about media reports about the alleged ill-health of Mr.Koirala, because doctors are attending and treating him regularly and his health was satisfactory.
Another hitch that remained in the way of formation of the interim government was that while almost all the political parties except the CPN (Maoists) were in favour of provision of a simple majority to form and dissolve the interim government .Now CPN(Maoists) have shown flexibility to amend it.Mr.Prachanda said the party had no problems amending it.
