Nepal Government’s official Website Hacked!!!

Kathmandu May 22, 2011: It has been reported that the official website of Nepal Government (http://www.nepalgov.gov.np/) has been hacked by anonymous group #OpEverest using the Denial of Service attack. The group has further threatened the government through a press release saying if the government is not responsible towards the country and general public further attacks would be launches.

According to the #OpEverest, “Currently the country is going through tough times where the people are bound to suffer politically, socially, economically etc. Apart from that irregular activities are also rising; the government has been more involved in facilitating its own image rather than the public, which we are completely against. The people want their new constitution but the political parties are further involved in their selfish motive where the country is in a deadlock. This is just a thought or an idea to make those people feel of our presence. One thing we have to say is the more you try to suppress the people’s aspiration is the more it grows. Moreover, the current happenings that are being a practiced doesn’t represent democratic system rather it’s more irrational.”
“If we are ignored then we will further attack other official websites and make the web operation of the government obsolete,” added the press release
For details the hacking group can be contacted at their facebook fan page

A denial-of-service attack (DoS attack) or distributed denial-of-service attack (DDoS attack) is an attempt to make a computer resource unavailable to its intended users. Although the means to carry out, motives for, and targets of a DoS attack may vary, it generally consists of the concerted efforts of a person or people to prevent an Internet site or service from functioning efficiently or at all, temporarily or indefinitely. Perpetrators of DoS attacks typically target sites or services hosted on high-profile web servers such as banks, credit card payment gateways, and even root nameservers. The term is generally used with regards to computer networks, but is not limited to this field; for example, it is also used in reference to CPU resource management
