Kathmandu Nepal: The main opposition party of Nepal, the Unified CPN (Maoist) had announced indefinite nationwide general strike from May 2. On the second day and still the strike takes its toll with the whole nation shutdown. Daily consumption commodities prices have gone up, working People are trapped in houses, students are bound to stay in their homes, tourists and travelers are stranded in Airports. Amidst all this Nepal certainly is in a Situation of Chaos.
Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has already said, “Maoist party is the party of the people and this strike is the strike for a reason, a reason to fulfill people’s aspirations. We will not leave the streets unless the government is dissolved and further gives space for creating the people’s constitution.”
“The protest will not be called off unless these demands are met. We will host the strike in a Peaceful way and if the government tries to suppress us they will have to face the consequences,” added Dahal.
Looking at the situation and condition, Madhav Kumar Nepal, Prime Minister of Nepal has immediately called a National Level meeting of the political parties at around 1PM Nepali Standard Time today. The meeting is further thought to focus on the ongoing protest and the resignation issue of the Prime Minister. Opposing the Maoist Strike the ruling parties had earlier advised the government not to bow down against the protest. Now, everything depends upon the Prime Minister’s decision about whether to accept their demands or to face the strike for further coming days.
