The ruling Seven Party Alliance (SPA) has finally reconciled and reached an agreement to break the current political deadlock. For the past several weeks CPN, the single largest party was not in favour of any amendment to the constitution.
Now the parties have reached an agreement on Tuesday to table a proposal in the Constituent Assembly (CA) meeting on Wednesday to amend the interim constitution.
The government would take the amendment proposal to the Constituent Assembly to elect the president and the Prime Minister by a simple majority. It would also propose changes in the current structure of the Security Council.(SC)
The parties however still differ on the issue of the SC. The Communist Party of Nepal(CPN) Maoists and the Communist Party of Nepal (UML) have rejected the demand of the Nepali Congress (NC) to keep a representative of the principal opposition party in the Security Council.
According to the interim constitution, the Army can be mobilized only after the SC recommends it to the President.
